Henrik Ibsen, "Hedda Gabler" - Portraying Hedda

This production poster portrays Hedda as a manipulative character in the play. The hand represents Hedda and the puppeteer stands for the the characters in the play that are manipulated and influenced by Hadda such as Tesman and Tea, as a result of her sexuality and good looks. The puppeteer is also symbolic of Hedda's desire for power and to take control over other characters' lives (and death). Throughout the play, Hedda seeks to control and dominate others on a whim—seemingly she wants only to alleviate the excruciating boredom of her life, and so makes others suffer for no better reason than because she can. I have also included flames in this depiction of Hedda Gabler as a symbol of her self-destructuon and the destruction towards the others characters in the play.
